Peak Load Institute is a strength and conditioning coaching practice in Bellevue, Washington, carrying general and professional liability insurance. Coaching is remote by default, with optional in-person sessions in the greater Seattle area.

The focus is body composition and relative strength: losing fat while keeping the muscle that most weight-loss approaches spend, so you end up lighter and stronger rather than smaller and weaker. That is what decides whether you move well, hold up under load, and get through ordinary things without getting hurt.

Most clients are senior people in technical careers: sedentary work, high cognitive load, and a schedule that doesn't cooperate. My own background is the same: a PhD in Computer Science, then a long career in the technology industry, including many years at Google, as a software engineer, a manager, an engineering director, and now co-founder and CTO of a startup, with kids and family responsibilities the whole time. The constraints are familiar ones.

Monthly coaching.

Coaching runs month to month and is billed before each monthly cycle.

It starts with a health screening, then a movement and capacity baseline, goal definition, and a plan you can execute. After that it's a training program built around your schedule and your training environment, including recommendations on equipment if you're setting up at home. It's updated as your data comes in, and between sessions you can message me by chat or email for a quick opinion or feedback. I'll also read what you're eating and tell you where it helps the training and where it works against it.

Founding rate

$450 / month

2 video sessions a month

$800 / month

4 video sessions a month

In-person sessions at your home in the greater Seattle area are available on request, quoted separately.

Either way

What is also included

  • Support between sessions by chat or email, with a reply within one business day
  • An honest read of what you are eating, and how it supports the training
  • Progress reviewed against your own data, not against a template
  • A continuously updated training program, built for your schedule and the equipment you will actually have

One-off sessions.

Not everything needs a monthly engagement. If you want a second opinion on the program you're already running, a technique check on your main lifts, help planning a home gym, or an honest read of what you're eating, I also work by the hour.

By the hour

$250 / hour

By video, or in person at your home in the greater Seattle area

Paid when you book. Travel for in-person sessions is quoted separately. First-time clients go through the same sign-up steps below.

How to become a client.

Fill a simple form to get in touch with me.

If we're moving forward, I'll send you a health data consent form explaining what I am collecting and why, followed by a short health screening questionnaire. If something in your answers calls for it, I'll work with your physician on clearance.

Then we schedule a face-to-face meeting, in person or online, go through your answers and your health history together, and decide whether this is a journey we both want to start.

Everything is free of charge, up to this point. After that, service agreements, waivers and payments are signed and processed, and coaching starts.

Health information you share with me is covered by the Washington My Health My Data Act, and how I handle it is set out in the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

What this isn't.

I am not a physician, dietitian, or licensed healthcare provider. My doctorate is not in medicine. This practice does not diagnose, treat, or manage any disease, and does not replace medical care. I don't write diet plans, and nutrition therapy for a diagnosed condition belongs with a registered dietitian. Anything involving diagnosis, disease or medication belongs with your physician. I work alongside them, not instead of them, and I refer out when a question belongs with a clinician.
